a southern belle turns beach bum

If you know me, you know that I am a lover of history so it’s no surprise that the Old City of St. Augustine is one of my most favorite places to visit. It is an area steep in history. Considered the oldest city in the U.S. St. Augustine was founded by the Spanish forty-two years before the English colony at Jamestown, Virginia, and fifty-five years before the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts. That kind of puts it into perspective, doesn’t it?

There is so much to see, do, and experience in St. Augustine that one blog entry with photos just won’t do (actually, only one day exploring St. Augustine just won’t do either.) So I thought I’d separate this into several entries.

Old Church in St. Augustine, FL
We enjoyed many different kinds of architecture. This is an old church in Old City.

Mantazas Bay in Old City St. Augustine, FL
We cruised the sidewalk on San Marcos Blvd, along the Mantazas Bay.

Carriage Ride Down San Marcos Blvd in St. Augustine, FL
Or take a carriage ride down San Marcos Blvd. The rides also tour past the historic homes in the back streets of Old City.

Back alley in Old City St. Augustine, FL
An alley off of San Marcos Blvd in Old Town.

Pirate Haus Hostel in Old City St. Augustine, FL
We checked out Pirate Haus Hostel in Old City St. Augustine.

Victorian Bed and Breakfast in Old City St. Augustine, FL
There are many Victorian Bed and Breakfasts in Old City. They are centrally located to everything, including the Haunted City Tours.

Flagler College, St. Augustine, FL
It’s not surprising that a city as old as St. Augustine plays host to several different architectural styles, although the Spanish style seems prevalent. Since we were at Flagler College, I was instructed to “walk like a school girl.” I don’t know how a school girl walks (too many years have passed) so I skipped.

Well, that’s the first installment of Old City St. Augustine, FL. I hope you’ll come back for the next part. These photos are from three visits into to St. Augustine, so there is so much more to come!

I'm LA, just little ole me, a southern belle who has always dreamed of being a beach bum. And now I am! I live in beautiful Cape Canaveral, FL, just steps away from the Atlantic Ocean. When I'm not lounging on the beach, I do graphic design and photography. Many of those photos you'll see on this blog. Check out the Photography and Graphics pages of this blog to see about pricing for each. So sit back, grab a tall cold glass of sweet tea and enjoy the view from the coast!
