a southern belle turns beach bum

Gone Fishin’ With the Boys

We now interrupt your regular scheduled programing (the St. Augustine files) for a special report.

Today, I went fishin’ with the boys (Oh yeah!) No, no, I didn’t fish and I don’t do fishing or camping very well (yes, I’ve been both camping and fishing but wasn’t raised like that…I’m from “city folk.” Ok, ok, it was a small city, a large town, but my parents were never into either of these activities, hence my “southern belle” moniker…just call me “princess,” others before you have done just that…I am—and don’t you forget it—a delicate flower) however, I LOVE the beach. I love my life here, so close to the beach. And I love to watch others fish in the ocean (kind of dead-ass sexy,) so I’m happy to just snap photos of the process. I have more photos from this adventure yet to come (hint, I love the pelicans, who are tough-ass birds and are willing to bob like bobbers in the ocean and don’t seem to mind smashing against the rocks just to eat.)

FYI…no, no fish. Bait used—shrimp and clams. Several bites, by Whiting, but nothing caught. They were hoping for Snook and Black Drum. What ever the hell that is? I have no clue.

However, it was a BEAUTIFUL day on the beach in central Florida, but don’t get me wrong, the water was a little chilly.

But….Shhhhhh…I’m NOT supposed to tell you how awesome this area is. So, shhhhh don’t tell anyone! Seriously, this is the best kept secret of Florida. No, no, really don’t come here. I am not supposed to tell you this is the best affordable beach-side properties you can find.

NO…don’t listen to me

BTW, since they didn’t catch anything…we went to the Port to eat tonight. More on Port Canaveral later.

I am very much now a beach bum. I have arrived!

I never liked the “sit in a boat or on a riverbank” fishing and admittedly, I don’t fish in the ocean either. Tho I told Mr. J. I might try sometime, but I never did learn to cast well (without hurting someone.) The perk here is I get to enjoy the beach, ocean, people-watch, bird-watch all without doing any of the work. LOL

Thank you, girl! This is one I hadn’t collected before, although I did lose all my others in the change-over.

Oh I miss fishing, too. I used to do that when I was still in the Philippines.

Hey Grace, thanks for stopping by. You don’t get to fish anymore? Of course, as I said, I think it’s a bit different fishing in the ocean.

Fishing is lots of fun, even when you end up not catching anything. At times, even when you have a catch or two, literally, it is not worth your time and effort but you still enjoy it. You value a fish caught more than one from the market, Fishing is a very passionate hobby and I like it.

Ah, Uncle Che! It’s so good to see you again. Yes, I’ve always been told by avid fishermen that it’s very therapudic. Of course, the obvious advantage is you do get to catch your dinner, and feel a sense of accomplishment for doing so (hehe, except, I don’t eat much fish at all) Thanks for stopping by! ;-)

A delicate flower and water, nice post Lotus. Like you I’m a bit of a townie and fishing ain’t really my thing. I do particularly like eating them, fresh fish, a nice restaurant and a cold beer. Heaven Lotus, sheer heaven.

I'm LA, just little ole me, a southern belle who has always dreamed of being a beach bum. And now I am! I live in beautiful Cape Canaveral, FL, just steps away from the Atlantic Ocean. When I'm not lounging on the beach, I do graphic design and photography. Many of those photos you'll see on this blog. Check out the Photography and Graphics pages of this blog to see about pricing for each. So sit back, grab a tall cold glass of sweet tea and enjoy the view from the coast!
